A corporate guide to evaluating carbon projects at the earliest stages
2026-01-12
Calyx Global has begun rating cookstove projects under Verra’s new cookstove methodology, VM0050 (version 1). In this blog, we explain the key improvements from the previous methodology, VMR0006, its alignment with the Core Carbon Principles (CCPs), the risks remaining at the project level, and preview our first rating under the new methodology.
The VM0050 methodology became effective on October 9, 2024, replacing the earlier cookstove methodology VMR0006. All projects rated by Calyx Global that apply the earlier VMR0006 methodology were found to have a high risk of over-crediting, with most projects over-credited by more than 100%.
