A corporate guide to evaluating carbon projects at the earliest stages
January 21, 2025 - Ratings Approach
Calyx Global is changing its GHG rating scale to align with the model currently used by the majority of the carbon credit ratings market. This change will make it easier for subscribers and the market to compare ratings across agencies.
The Calyx Global GHG ratings map to our new scale in the following way:
| Rating before Jan 2025 (10-point scale) | Rating after Jan 2025 (8-point scale) |
|---|---|
| A+ | AAA or AA |
| A | AA or A |
| B+ | A or BBB |
| B | BBB or BB |
| C+ | BB or B |
| C | B |
| D+ | C |
| D | C |
| E+ | D |
| E | D |
Note: Allocation is based on scoring of a project’s credits against each of the risk factors in Calyx Global’s GHG Integrity Framework
Our rigorous approach to assessing ratings remains the same. Our peer-reviewed GHG integrity framework that is used to assess additionality, over-crediting (baselines, project emissions, leakage), permanence and overlapping claims has not changed. Consequently, you can expect the same reliable ratings that are the hallmark of Calyx Global’s credibility. SDG ratings will continue to use the same +1 to +5 scale.
Although our new GHG rating scale is similar to other rating agencies, we note that there are still critical differences in our approach to assessing GHG integrity.
